About The Lion King (1994)

A lion cub runs away after his father's death and has to come back to take his place as king. It's often compared to Hamlet.

How it was made

  • The crew visited Hell's Gate National Park in Kenya to study the environment. The Pride Lands were modeled on it.
  • The wildebeest stampede used 3D computer characters multiplied into hundreds. Five animators and technicians spent more than two years on the two-and-a-half-minute sequence.
  • The filmmakers used varied focal lengths and lenses to avoid the usual documentary look of Africa on screen.
