A timid flower shop worker finds a talking plant that wants blood and gets famous by feeding it. It's a musical based on the stage show, which came from a 1960 Roger Corman film.

How it was made

  • Audrey II was filmed at 12 or 16 frames per second, then sped up to 24. The actors sang in slow motion so the plant's mouth looked like it talked fast.
  • Designer Lyle Conway built seven animatronic stages of the plant. Four puppeteers, each in charge of eight cables, rehearsed for three months to match the lip movements to the songs.
  • The largest Audrey II needed around 60 puppeteers. The film's downtown street, with an overhead train track, was built on the Albert R. Broccoli 007 Stage at Pinewood Studios in England.
