Aspect ratio

A scientist's teleportation experiment goes wrong and he slowly begins to turn into a fly. Cronenberg treats it as a tragic love story with extreme makeup.

How it was made

  • The film was shot at the Kleinburg Studio in Toronto. Principal photography began December 1, 1985.
  • Chris Walas, Inc. built the creature effects over three months. The final creature was shown with partial and full-body cable and rod controlled puppets.
  • Irwin chose the Arriflex 35 BL because it was smaller than a Panaflex. He lit the film so it would not read as a horror film.
