Three out-of-work scientists start a business catching ghosts in New York, and then the city faces a much bigger problem. It's a comedy with real effects work behind it.

How it was made

• The fictional rooftop of 55 Central Park West was built on Stage 12 at the Burbank Studios lot.
• The cinematographer warned that dark paint would not film well at night. That changed the Ectomobile design.
• Slimer was a full-size foam rubber puppet filmed against a black background. Non-puppet ghosts were animated, and one second of footage could take up to three weeks.
